That is a hell of a post. I'm so glad it was said, and I'm kinda glad it was said on the website instead of the community... I was bracing for bullshit until I saw that it was on fats.com. There, it's more likely to be read by fat bloggers and fat blog readers (since it's on the Notes from the Fatosphere feed), where the level of discourse is more what this post deserves.

Such a great post. It does a good job of articulating why it is we don't see many POC in the fat acceptance movement and why that's a problem. I get really frustrated looking at the white face of fat acceptance (and the "oh but your community loves fatties" bullshit).

Please please please consider joining the fat blogging community, because you are rad and because I can't see a way of addressing this without balancing out the overwhelming whiteness of the high-profile fat bloggers.

Thank you. I'm pretty overwhelmed by life right now, but I do think about it and do pop in to various blogs to comment. It's just. Meh. Most of the communities I think of as being my home are also mega white and it's really exhausting some days to do the thing. Stuff things. Maybe in the summer when there is more sun.

Maybe by summer some of the communities will have gotten the message and started cleaning shit up as far as race awareness. I know it's time to update the Shapely Prose comments policy, for sure. (On the other hand, one of the most smackable commenters on Tara's thread is also a frequent SP commenter, so I doubt it'll ever be free of head-up-ass white privilege... but a couple of our regular readers have also commented on the post saying "wow, this is a lot to think about, thank you." Which, hello, Ms. "What The Hell Am I Supposed To Do" Lady? That's what.)
