First day of classes: so far, so good

Sep 09, 2002 14:11

I've already had 3 classes, and have 2 more before I'm done. Monday is my heaviest class day with 5, and Thursday is the lightest with only 1.
Anyway, I started at 9 with Persons in Political Community, but only 25 minutes because of Convocation. More about that in a minute. I have 2 courses in the new Devo Communications Center that's across the street, so I had my first encounter with The Crossing (i.e. how to get a bunch of college students across a busy intersection without injuring any of them). It's basically a big bridge about the street. And like I said, I have 2 courses in DC: PiPC and Introduction to Theater. They're both on the same days, so I could just chill there in between courses if it weren't for Intermediate Japanese in Hiemenga Hall -_-
On to Convocation, which is a sort of ceremony to welcome all the freshmen. It was really hot, since everyone was there, faculty and everything. Afterwards was a picnic, but since I had to go to IJ, I just grabbed a Mountain Dew (I was *really* thirsty), and went back for food afterwards. It was only 25 minutes (again, because of Convocation). All that really happened was that he introduced all the 'oldtimers' (his term) to those of us who had studied Japanese in high school.
After lunch and a quick stop in my room, I went back to DC for my first full-length class: Introduction to Theater, and the Prof. is Teresa TerHaar, who was my advisor during Orientation ^_^ We went over the syllabus and played a few ice breakers. And since my next class wasn't for another hour, I came back to my dorm room. But now I have to go to Honors Written Rhetoric. Unfortunately, I've heard it referred to as 'the GPA buster.'
