a much better day
yesterday was birthday! the day started out well enough; katy, lindsey, and i went to breakfast at el sol y la luna on south congress and saw benjamin mckenzie from the o.c. eating there right next to us. the food kind of stank, though, so i don't know why he was there. then we went shopping, and i bought a yerba matte at jo's that hopped me up on caffeine for a good 8 hours, a fabulous pair of sunglasses, a cinderella watch face from the '50's, andan arkansas charm for my charm bracelet. i've decided i'm going to have a state charm bracelet. that is because states are charming.
then we went home and watched some "extras" on dvd. then we decided to go for a picnic in pease park, and we bought all sorts of delicious food from whole foods with the gift card katy bonner gave me. sushi, bread, cheese, hummus, blackberries, mango, and organic jellybeans really is a fabulous mixture. and the weather was the perfect spring crispness.
then we went home and watched some more "extras." and then went to say hi to matt. then came home and watched some more "extras." and then we went to dinner at the east side cafe, which was just lovely. stephanie g., katie j., katy b., jeni p., patrick...?, matt h., grecia m., nisha p., natalie d., and lindsey d. were all in full force. i had another mixed field greens salad and a piece of carrot cake. i was only sung "happy birthday" once, which was nice. i would have preferred to be sung "jump" by van halen.
and then the beauty bar!! holy mothereffing yentl was that fun. let's see....i ingested a mexican martini at trudy's, and then a stoli vanilla with oj, a pineapple upside down cake, two cherry vodka sours, one amaretto sour, two mint chocolate chips, one watermelon DISGUSTO bomb, and whatever people shoved at me. in retrospect, just enough alchy to make me unable to control the volume of my voice (as well as my inner monologue), my feelings of love/displeasure, and my ability to walk. i had to crawl to the toilet and wait for the barf that never came. instead, the toilet and i had a lovely 4 minute conversation about why i felt it was necessary to put my face so close to the place where i poop on a regular basis.
i fell asleep with my contacts in for the first time, and they didn't fall out!
AHH and then we had the best brunch EVER at the starlite next to the drafthouse. it was quite a beautiful establishment, and i was maybe still a little enflagrante. i had some hella delicious french toast and a mimosa (in honor of nicholas pino).

overall, i think i effectively conveyed to nicholas pino just how much i loved him via two phone calls, but i really am sad that he could not fly in again like he did last time. that was the best birthday present i've ever received.
i had a good weekend. now i just have to worry about the MEC chair position which i am applying for, the french oral exam tomorrow, and the pr test wednesday.
