Twas Brillig and the Slithy Toves

The SyFy modernization of Alice, makes me happy.

Besides the fact Andrew Lee Potts from Primeval is perfectly cast as the modern Mad Hatter (he's just Connor with a bit of extra bastard), the art director clearly studied John Tenniel's original illustrations, as the subtle references are so frequent, and wonderfully integrated.

All right, so the plot is a little forced in bits, to try and fit as much of the original texts (both AAIW and TTLG) as possible, but the obvious reverence for the material and not a cheap gimmick because you're known for being wacky (I'm looking at you, Tim Burton), and the amusement at spotting so many elements that are included, makes up for it. Not that the original plot was known for being overly sensible either.

Other awesome bits: Jack being in trouble for stealing something. Oh, Jack of Hearts who stole the tarts, you amuse me. Also, Wanda, from Corner Gas as the Dormouse is hilarious. Finally, they get the whole underlying darkness in the original texts. They deserve serious props for working in the poetry the way they do.

As the Mad Hatter says: "Does this look like a kid's story to you?"

I think I need to make icons from this.

squee, i am the world's biggest loser
