Supernatural 7.01 reaction post

Sep 24, 2011 18:33

To clarify my earlier post, that was less a *reaction* to this episode, and more a reaction to supernatural as a whole *sparked* by this episode. I actually quite enjoyed the majority of 7.01 until near the end when it um. Sparked some pent-up SPN-related frustration? I will explain later in the post, it's a bit spoilery.

For your reading pleasure, bullet points of Things Theo Liked:
  • SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM
  • SAMMY SAMMY SAM FACE
  • OH GOSH I DO LOVE CRAZY CRAZYCAKES CHARACTERS
  • AND THEY ARE HANDLING SAM'S CRAZY EXACTLY HOW I'D HOPED, SO FAR. POSSIBLY BETTER.
  • Dean! Apart from the OOC-seeming part where he didn't go check on Sam ASAP after the souls went back to pergatory, Dean was great this episode. Haha, YES YOU SHOULD DO CAR REPAIR FOR A LIVING. JUST LIKE IN EVERY SINGLE SPN CURTAIN FIC. ♥__♥ I love it when you are talented, Dean!
  • Impala repairing will never not be emotionally resonant for me on this show. BABY JUST KEEPS ON KEEPING ON. Because Winchesters are determined fuckers when it comes to the things they love. <333333
  • I'm sorry (to the world in general, really) but Dean being into hentai just made me cackle ridiculously. YOU KNOW YOU LOVE TENTACLE PORN, DEAN. (FTR: I know not all anime porn has tentacles. JUST LET ME HAVE MY PERSONAL CRACK CANON.)
  • I'm vaguely excited by the fact Misha might actually get to act with facial expressions, now. \o/ I AM VERY BORED OF HIM NOT HAVING FACIAL EXPRESSIONS.
  • Crowley, I fucking love you and your self-interested pragmatism. Seriously. I LOVE HOW QUICKLY HE WAS ON BOARD WITH BEING GODSTIEL'S BITCH, YES I DO.
  • I also loved his 'FML' face when the Winchesters summoned him. :3
  • I also love that he actually did conspire with them, after pointing out that doing so was a terrible idea. <3333 CROWLEY.
  • DEATH WILL NEVER NOT BE A BADASS, THE END.
  • I really, really, really liked that Sam lied to Dean (to protect him ;__;) and that Dean was pissed (because GDI, even if he can't help, don't cut him out, Sam!) and that Dean then brought the issue up, and that they then talked it out. OMG YES, BOYS COMMUNICATING. \o/
  • OH HAI LUCIFER, I HAVE MISSED YOU. <3333 AND I LOVE YOU BEING BACK, EVEN IF YOU JUST A FIGMENT OF SAM'S IMAGINATION. OR PERHAPS ESPECIALLY BECAUSE YOU ARE A FIGMENT OF SAM'S IMAGINATION. YAAAAAAY, MARK PELLIGRINO!

AND NOW THE RANTING:

OH MY FUCKING GOD, SUPERNATURAL WRITERS, I AM SO, SO, SO FUCKING SICK OF YOU SETTING UP STORYLINES AND THEN ABANDONING THEM. SERIOUSLY. SERIOUSLY.

What is the goddamn point of getting invested in the plot of your show if you never fucking follow through on things?

Ugh. So as you may have gathered, the fact they spent half of last season setting up a storyline, and then made it a giant cliffhanger, and then made the first episode of this season basically just a big card saying "Wait, no, scratch that! We've had a better idea!" just pisses me off. I don't care if you're bored of your old idea! You are professional writers! It is glaringly sloppy if you just change your mind in the middle of doing stuff!

Plotlines you could entirely cut out of Supernatural, and end up making the whole thing more coherent, rather than less, in doing so:
> The psychic kids. Yeah, so it turned out the Winchesters were the only ones who actually mattered, because they were from the ~Michael and Lucifer's Vessels~ bloodline, and were specifically individually fated to be the important players in the apocalypse stuff.
> Sam's powers. Couldn't be cut out entirely, obvs, but they were basically following an entire new and different logic from season four onwards, so the original logic may as well not have existed.
> The whole ~wooo Sam may be the Anti-Christ~ thing, which just went nowhere, and then was basically erased for the sake of that antichrist kid.
> That antichrist kid, who basically did nothing, was entirely pointless, and then was never brought up again.
> Most of the internal conflict in heaven that happened before season six.
> All of the ~Dean is Michael's vessel~ stuff.
> The amulet is a magical god-detector.
> Godstiel, when they could have just had the Leviathan turn up at the end of season six to be the cliffhanger.
> Probably a bunch of other stuff I have forgotten and/or erased from my brain for my own good.

The list of abandoned plot should not be that long, SPN writers! I used to actually, genuinely watch this show for the plot. But there's just no point in establishing a mytharc if you're going to retcon/abandon that much of it. Ugh. JUST STOP IT, SPN WRITERS. STOP IT. STOP.

winchesters make my soul go 'round, sam winchester, cliffhangers need to diaf, ranting, television, stop ruining my life, reaction post, squee, this post has tentacles, being over invested is awesome, lucifer is my favourite, tv: supernatural
