I just caught up with the Temeraire series (summer job = bus journeys = me reading actual paper books), and dsafwgethrjwstuk IS IT JUST ME, OR IS THIS SERIES GETTING EVEN MORE AWESOME OVER TIME?
I read Empire of Ivory over about a week or two, but I found the ending so gripping (I think it was maybe my favourite moment in the series so far) that I ended up starting Victory of Eagles the moment I'd finished, and then I finished VoE over the course of three days.
I can't tell if I adore Iskierka or if I find her irritating (I definitely would in real life xP). Perscitia, on the other hand, is 100% definitely MY NEW FAVOURITE EVEEEER. I think I kind of ship her with Temeraire.
Also, I am rolling delightedly in the angsty moral dilemmas and the politics. YES PLS. Next book cannot come fast enough! \o/
Semi-relatedly, HERE ARE RECS:
Extracts from Dragon Integration and the Known World: A Comparative Study by Sipho Tsuluka DlaminiGUYS GUYS GUYS. This is a crossover between Temeraire and How to Train Your Dragon in the form of a fake academic paper. This is like everything I never knew I wanted out of life all rolled into one. ♥__♥ The geekery I felt reading this was OVER 9000. DELIGHTED. Although it is a little D: insofar as it functions as a meta. Personally I think I do not interpret the dragons in HTTYD as as intelligent as some people do, but obviously they are in a HTTYD/Temeraire fusion, and that has some unfortunate implications for HTTYD. This did kind of make me go OH HICCUP NO a little. ANYWAY, READ THIS, IT IS AWESOME.
UntitledUK politics/Temeraire crossover. THAT'S RIGHT. Because what your life really needs is politicians riding around on dragons. Or being dragons. EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL. :DDDDD This is exactly the kind of crack I could read all day.
A Series of Conversations on an Awkward Subject*sneakily ETAs* Fic in which Emily Roland is trans! And then there is angst about whether or not Excidium will accept him as captain when the time comes, given that he's not, actually, a woman. *clappy hands* I like Emily a lot in the books, so I am pretty delighted to see a fic so focussed on hir. Except now I want an entire novel series devoted to this Roland's adventures.
A Room With a ViewETA the second: Perscitia fic! YAY. What she gets up to after the end of VoE. Which is delightful and charming and exactly the sort of thing I hope she's getting up to when we get to see her again in canon. THIRD PLACE? PFFT. NO. (Haha, SO DELIGHTFUL. ILU PERSCITIA.)
(All of these recs are gen (or mostly gen-ish) in case anyone was wondering.)
