Supernatural 5x07
I don't think the episode dragged for me as much as it did for some people (it seemed to go pretty quickly, actually), but it's not a favourite of mine. IDK. I would have preferred Jensen in old!make-up to random actor dude. It was a bit like In The Beginning that way, in that I was kind of sitting there going "Wait, but half of you are missing D:" the whole ep.
Having said that, I liked Patrick a whole lot! He reminds me of the trickster, in as much as he seems to do the nasty (and, occasionally, nice) things he does primarily for the lulz. A++! He and the trickster should hang out some time.
Also, there was protective!Sam! :D WHO WAS A BAMF, AS HE SHOULD BE. Mmmm... competence kink. I was hoping so hard that Sam'd end up saving the day by playing and winning, AND THEN HE DID. :DDD
My thoughts on Sam's skill are that Sam got one fuck of a lot better at poker when having to do all his hustling for himself during the Dean-in-Hell era. His poker face was helped a lot by the fact that he had much bigger things to be caring about at the time than some card game or whatever (he really wasn't about to start making excited face when he got a good hand). Bobby and Dean didn't really know about that since they weren't around at the time, hence them being dismissive of Sam's ability to win back their losses.
