Summary: Her name had long been decided.
It was the best feeling any woman could ever have. That wondrous feeling of ecstasy was worth it all-the pain, the discomfort, the mood swings, the contractions, everything. It was all worth it.
After nine months of anticipation, Mouri Kogoro and Eri were finally parents. Parents to a healthy and bouncy baby girl.
Their sweet little bundle of joy had eyes as blue as the ocean, strands of hair that were as brown as chestnuts, and skin that was kissed by the sun. The epitome of beauty-an angel.
An hour later and into her private ward, the newfound mother was finally able to hold her daughter in her arms, cradling her against her chest.
“Um . . . what should we name her?” Her husband chimed in; he was beginning to feel left out.
“Hmm . . .” she contemplatively mumbled, glancing around the room. “How about . . .”
Her eyes then landed on a pot of orchids placed on a table next to her. They were purple and looked rather shriveled, like those flowers she received back as a teenager. She could not help smiling a bit as her mind played a certain memory from her past.
-
“Huh? You’re giving me this?” she asked, looking at him in disbelief.
“. . . is there something wrong with that?”
“It’s not like you to give flowers . . . especially an expensive one such as this.”
“Is that s-?”
“Add to the fact that our date is at a ramen stand,” she added, her lips slowly curving themselves into a smirk. “Let me guess. You went around the neighborhood asking for flowers because you were too cheap to actually buy them.”
“No! Of course not!” he exclaimed, his face beginning to flush red. She just had to know him really well, didn’t she? “I got them at . . . at . . .”
She pulled the orchid closer to her and muttered, “Thanks anyway.”
-
“Ran. I want to name our daughter Ran.”
He raised an eyebrow; he’d always thought that she would pick a much fancier name. “Ran? Why’d you wanna name her that?”
“Oh, nothing. You won’t understand.”
Kogoro turned his back on her and mumbled. “Women . . .”
Yup, you guessed it: another theme comm challenge. (I promise this'll be the last one I'll be joining in a while!) This series of Ran-centered (okay, I know there's not much Ran in this one) fics are all for the 30 Flowers community of LiveJournal, and I'm actually crazy enough to try to tackle all 100 themes. Hopefully I'll do a better job in exploring Ran's character in the remaining 99 fics. Don't expect too much Shinichi/Ran, though--I already have 30 Tears and Tales of the Detective and His Angel for that, alright? (And there is this remote possibility of crack ficcage. Haha.)
Oh, and before I forget, Ran's name means "orchid" in Japanese. Until next time!
