My first two suggestions for names (Kal-El and James Tiberius) were shot down without any discussion. Right now we're thinking maybe Dylan for a boy, and either Fiona or Serena if it's a girl.
Oddly enough, my wife's concern wasn't that she didn't want the baby named after a Star Trek captain, but rather that she didn't like "Jim" as a short form, and she was worried people would just use that.
Generally people call people what they refer to themselves. :O I've never seen someone use a nickname the person didn't want... also, the name I go by isn't my real name, I just tell people that's my name, so they use it. XD (And besides, nowadays, do people really know Jim is a short for James? Kinda like Dick + Richard.)
I think it's just one of those automatic parent reactions - as soon as you think of a name, you think about what kinds of nicknames are going to stem from that name, and whether you're okay with that :o)
Now I'm curious as to what you're real name is, though o_0
Wait, I think I knew that? I think I thought you meant your real name was something other than Nicollette, but that that's what you had people call you.
