I'm not sure how many of the people who read this are Nine Inch Nails fans, but I'm sure there's got to be a couple of you that will be interested in this. Trent Reznor released the new Nine Inch Nails album, Ghosts I-IV, online today, with a physical version of the album being released in April. If you go to the
http://ghosts.nin.com site, you can download either a one disc version of the album for free, or a four disc version for five dollars. There are also other deluxe packages that one can buy if they are so inclined, as well.
As Reznor has become very openly critical of the music industry of late, it's not surprising that he's decided to go this route to distribute his music. What is surprising, and interesting, however, is that he's also decided to apply a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license to the songs, encouraging people to share and adapt them. I think it's the first time that someone with Reznor's level of fame has embraced CC, which should lead to a lot more people learning about it.
For now all I'll really say about the album is that it's interesting. It's entirely instrumental, and seems to be somewhat retrospective - while it's all new material, there seems to be songs throughout the album that correspond with pretty much every part of Nine Inch Nails' career. If you've liked any NIN stuff in the past, there will probably be something here of interest to you. I've only been able to give it one real listen-through so far, though, so there isn't much more I can say about it right now.
