Oh! The Things We Know We Shouldn't, but still do (continued....)

Yesterday was a great great day. It started out rather slow. I made a grilled cheese sandwich and read the Jungle all day! And I cleaned my room for the first time in several months and now I can see and am able to sit on the floor! I am so happy! There is a mysterious stain on my rug though and it's kind of sticky and I don't know how it got there...I think it might have been from moving the organ all those months ago to the other side of the room, but I don't know why there was weird shit underneath the organ......ANYWAY!
Caroline was gone all day with her friend, so it was just my mother and I. She is suddenly crazily obsessed with ebay! It's kind of amusing.
We eventually drove to Putnam to see the fireworks! We parked kind of far away because there was no better spot, but it was nice to walk. I saw Noelle and her parents driving in a car...and then I saw Caitlin but I didn't stop to talk or hang out because she was with a bunch of kids from Saint Mary's and in my experience with her friends from Saint Mary's I have realized I can't stand any of them. So, we continued to walk through the obnoxiously slow moving crowd to the rock/flag pole area where my sister was seated with her friend and her friend's parents. I didn't really feel like hanging out so I was like, "Mom! I am going to go get coffee at Vickies and I will call you if I find someone to hang out with!" And she was like, "Okay!"
So! I crossed the street and walked to Vickies and who should be there by my brother and Dj and Jon and Alex and Billy (the latter two with their girlfriends I have never met......) And I got coffee and the line was long so it took a bit and when I came out Alex and Billy were still there but Ben and John and DJ were gone and I was like, "Where is my brother?!" And then I saw him coming out of an ally and Alex and Billy were like, "They are trying to figure out how to get up on a roof to watch the fireworks". "Cool!" I said and I went with my brother and those guys to try and find a way to get up on a roof.
We tried going in an ally between that bank and a sketchy antique store...and John ALMOST managed to get onto a roof, but there was nothing to grip and the rest of us wouldn't have been able to get up because John is like Spiderman.
Then we went to the ally between the Courthouse and that old martial arts building (the same one where we had the lobster races!) And there was a kind of broken, but usable, ladder near the dumpsters and John used it to get up on the roof of that nearby church....but it wasn't really a good spot. So, we carried the ladder to the other ally and it was perfect for getting up onto the roof in back of there.....but then we thought of a BETTER place that we might be able to get up to.
By this point it was getting kind of dark and time was of the essence!
Ben went and dropped his stuff off at Vickies just in case we had to run.....
Our plan was to get on top of the giant building in the Courthouse ally with the old Coke advertisement on it. We went up some stairs onto the roof of the building adjacent to it...but the ladder going to the top of the building we WANTED to be on was locked and almost impossible to climb. We were just about to go back to the other ally when we realized there was ANOTHER ladder on top of the roof we were currently on. So! We took that ladder and made a sort of bridge to the roof of that GIANT antique store. And we were like "YES!" AND THEN THERE WAS ANOTHER LADDER UP ON THAT ROOF! So, we used that to get up on top of the Courthouse! It was beautiful! Ridiculously beautiful! John, DJ, Ben and I sat up there and were so proud of our accomplishment.
And then Ben had to go back down to fetch Jill who had just arrived at Vickies. So it was just DJ, John and I for a bit. We went and looked over the side to the street and realized the roof was really sooty but figured nothing is perfect! And then we sat and talked and were crazy.
Ben came back with Jill eventually and seeing them both come up the ladder over the wall-thing reminded me of the Ninja Turtles for some reason.
Then the fireworks eventually started and we had the perfect view! The fireworks exploded just beyond the church and with the tower, made a very nice composition! They were beautiful!
We made "friends" with some people on some nearby roofs....mainly just watching them and screaming with them at the fireworks. We eventually moved to a far corner of the roof closer to the church because we couldn't see the really low flying fireworks too well. We watched and were hypnotized and the people on the roof adjacent to us were whistling at them so John made us all start screaming "We beat the British!"
When the fireworks ended I figured we should get down as fast as possible because my mother would be looking for me and would not like knowing I had watched the fireworks on a roofs I PROBABLY wasn't supposed to be on. On the antique roof there were some other people sitting there we hadn't realized and then, while we were climbing down onto the next roof there were some people smoking in the ally below and they were telling us to get down and that they were going to call the cops......jokingly, I believe, because they didn't call the cops.
We got down and went through the ally and walked back to Vickies and I called my mother and was like, "Yeah, we watched the fireworks by....the church!" And then we met her at Vickies and I stayed with Ben and people and lots more people showed up and we went and played wiffle ball in the Pyz parking lot. The drunk biker guys seemed to enjoy watching the game. And a cop drove by at one point and we all got nervous, but he didn't seem to care.
We played until midnight and it was a really really great time.
We went home in John's car and got pulled over by a cop because John's tail light was out. He didn't have his license on him... but the cop wasn't a jerk and didn't give John a ticket or anything. It was funny because the cop handed John back his registration and John didn't realize that that is what it was and put it in the glove box thinking it was a ticket and was surprised to find later that it wasn't!
He drove us home and I stayed up and played guitar and this morning I woke up and had breakfast at Stoggy Hollow with my dad, Pam, Ben, Jill, Jen, and Caroline! I didn't get bacon even though I asked for it :(
I have to mow the lawn today.....hopefully my mother will be getting gas when she goes out.
And I don't know if I'm going to the bonfire later...
