Line
He walks through the door to find her waiting.
She looks at him with those deep eyes...eyes he has lost himself in for hours at a time previously. He looks into them, and both of them begin to weep. She apologises, for saying that without speaking it, those words which hurt him. She tries to explain herself and her thoughts but he raises a hand to stop her.
He breathes a deep sigh and begins to tell her. He speaks of what he did to get his power improved, the actions and betrayals that were so central to his ascent. Of his fears and what has driven him to bury himself deep beneath his shell of power and false emotion. Of how is his powers wane and what it has struck within him.
She forgives him for all of it, tells him she loves him and asks him to hold her close.
He continues instead, telling her of his cheating antics and how he has passed himself around, and sought redemption for his sins. He speaks of the path that he has tried to follow in order to come back to her. Her response is simple.
"I never thought I'd find someone to be mine. Lord knows I was right, cause you just crossed the line."
His scream of pain is known to all who hear it as a mark of true suffering. She simply walks past him and leaves, tears streamging down her face, unable to face this new pain that is threatening to overtake her.
Somewhere far away, a figure smiles at her revenge.
