Strange truth in fiction

This comic lampooning prejudiced suspension of disbelief actually speaks to something that bugs me sometimes. The most recent incident was talking with people who had a hard time swallowing the cell phone trick in The Dark Knight. My response was that if it was magical, or less based in the real world, it'd be easier to suspend disbelief. But Batman is supposed to be based on superhero comics, where implausable things happen all the time (and are really part of the idiom). Just because Nolan tried to make it grittier, he can't still have sci-fi hand waving for plot elements? Come on.
