& a tutorial on how to make this:

I use both PSP8 and PS7. I learned most everything I know on PSP7, but I don't happen to like the new version, and my copy won't load brushes, so the only thing I do in PSP is crop & rotate. I could do it in PS, but I can do it quicker in PSP since I'm more familiar and it's second nature to me.

First, I start out with this screencap from Friends Generation.

I paste it into PSP and rotate it right 7.14* (image --> rotate --> free rotate). I then crop, duplicate twice, set the top layer to hard light, and the middle layer to screen. That gets rid of the grainy, pixelated, crapppy look. I merge layers and am left with this.

I then open a new document in PS and paste the base into it. I then sharpen and duplicate twice. I set the top layer to soft light and the middle layer to screen.

I then desaturate the soft light layer (ctrl+shift+u)

This is what your layer palette should look like:

I create 2 new layers in between Layer 1 copy and Layer 1 copy 2. I fill the bottom layer with #4AECC0 and set it to exclusion. I fill the top layer with #BDBCE2 and set it to exclusion.

I then merge all layers (ctrl+E) & save. I then go to image --> adjustments --> brightness/contrast and put both brightness and contrast on +35.

I create a new layer. I fill it with this gradient:

I set the gradient to Vivid Light and the opacity to 57%.

I duplicate the layer and rotate it 180* (edit --> transform --> rotate 180*). I set the layer to Color Burn and 65%.

I merge all layers & save. I create a new layer. I fill it with this gradient:

I set it to soft light.

I then go to hue/saturation (image --> adjustments --> hue/saturation) and set the hue to +180 and the lightness to -19. I then use this brush in #604AA0. I don't know whose brush it is, the file name was 'mine2.' I get all of my brushes from 100x100_brushes though.

I set it to screen and drag it underneath layer 1 (the gradient).

It looks too pinky for me so I play around with the hue and saturation and finally settle on the hue at +180 and the lightness at -53

I create a new layer above the brush and add this brush, also part of 'mine2,' in #414B23, which the other brush ended up being after I changed the hue.

I set it to screen as well. I merge all layers & save.

I then grab the color #4A4583 from the icon and add this brush by prissywitch in a new layer.

I rotate the brush 90* CW and set it to multiply with an opacity of 75%. I merge all layers & save.

I then add text. The quote I've chosen is "I need a friend to make me happy" from Lara Fabian's A Wonderful Life. We start with 'I need a' in #4A4583, Arial Black, crisp, all caps, 6.5pt.

But you can't see it. I go to blending options and change the blend mode to linear dodge. Screen also works well, but linear dodge looked better on this icon. I check drop shadow and change the distance to 1 and the size to 0.

Better. Duplicate the layer, move it and write 'to make' in it. This way you don't have to enter the settings again. Do the same for 'me happy.'

Duplicate one of the text layers again. I wrote 'friend' in P22 Cezanne Regular 18pt strong. I move all the text around and finally settle on this. I want the text to stand out more, so I duplicate all the layers and set the copies' opacity to 45%. And ta-daaa! There you are.

EDIT: I found out where those 2 brushes came from! Download set 2 here from _extraflamey_.
