It's odd that when you look backwards your sense of color gets distorted. Gone are the hues and saturations that make the world real. When you look back in your life you see only the contrast. This time was good, this one was bad. Everyone can think of a time when they were very young and they were happy, or they were very scared. Gone are all the complications of life. Those days when you were bored out of your skull replaced with the two hours of the day you spent racing your bike against the wind and your friends.
If life were as starkly contrasted as memory things would be so much simpler. Love would always be pure and untainted, and hate would always be somewhere very far away from love. The world would not seem so tainted by the in-betweens of life, those feelings that aren't quite red and those actions that aren't quite blue. A life of primary colors. A little more boring, but a lot simpler.
