Baby's first feminist poem

Nov 13, 2005 22:46

I could never be a woman
Wrapped in plastic,
Coifed and posed.
I could never be a woman
Smiling blankly, waiting patiently,
Gazing off into the distance.
I could never be a woman
Sticking my head in an oven,
Wondering why the storybook never felt as promised.
I could never be a woman
Waiting on my pedestal,
Tied down by my absent opportunities.
I could be a woman
Taking a path
not
so
straight
or well
formed
living my life
the way
that
I
see
fit.
