my 2 character essays

The one character on Greys Anatomy that is the most like me will always be Lexie Grey. When I first heard Meredith would have a sister I thought the idea was crazy but it took me seconds to love her. Outside she is this bubbly, know it all with a photographic memory. She can name the whole periodic table and she is always the first to raise her hands during question time.
Then there is this other side of her, the broken side. She grew up with an alcoholic father and most of the responsibility of him landed on her think shoulders. I loved the dynamic this caused between her and Meredith. Lexie spent her whole life imagining how this big sister was, how she would come and save Lexie from her life. When they finally did meet Meredith was cold and wanted nothing to do with her. It took time but when Lexie finally stood up to her their relationship started to form and now they are slowly becoming closer.
Just like me Lexie look at life differently than most people, she puts up a façade and only truly give herself to the people who care enough to look past the smiles and fake laughs. That was what I loved the most about her friendship with Alex. He understood her and even bought liquor for her dad so he would not drive drunk. I never really saw them as a couple; they just understood each other more than anyone else did. They share a bond that makes their friendship more special.
Mark on the other hand is a man I could really see her with. He may not always understand her like Alex can but he helps her in other ways. Lexie and Mark are both damaged goods but together they make this unbelievable relationship work. He teaches her things, he makes her more secure in herself and she loosens up thanks to him. She on the other hand makes him monogamous and shows him what real love is.
What makes me love Lexie is how not perfect she is. She is too scared, too insecure and she fails. She is not a super intern and may not make the prefect doctor but she tries the hardest. She treats her patients like her friends and she will stop at nothing to help them. That makes her in my eyes, close to perfect at what she does. I look forward to see Lexie grow even more over the seasons and I hope they cut her some slack and let her be happy, at least for a little while.

Dr. Mark Sloan: So... a photographic memory, huh?
[pause]
Dr. Mark Sloan: Periodic Table. Go.
Dr. Lexie Grey: Hydrogen, helium, lithium, beryllium, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, neon, sodium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur. I can keep going.

When Callie first came into Greys Anatomy she provided the show with a bad ass attitude that was well needed. She gave the show a bit of fresh air. It was almost too obvious that she was simply put there to have a relationship with George but people realized how amazing she was and let her stay.
What I love about her is how incredibly real she is. She puts up this tough front but when she gets hurt she falls apart. I can see so much of myself in her; she’s a loner who despite the tough exterior is still a young girl inside. She was never trained for the real world; she was trained to be a doctor.
It wasn’t all that odd when she started dating Erica, Callie was just slowly trying to find out who she was. She is trying to catch up on all the things she never got to do when she was younger and even though the thing with Erica didn’t turn out so great she got someone else out of it. She found Arizona. A woman who despite being loving and caring doesn’t let Callie get away with her insecurities.
Callie has grown a lot throughout the seasons. It’s like every season she opened up a little more and in the later seasons we got to see her so vulnerable. We got to see her interact with her dad and she took a huge leap and told him she was in love with a woman and it all came crashing down around her. It took some time for her to accept it but she did get up and she kept going, not letting go of what she believed in. She chose love over her family and in the end her dad came around. I think this was a huge thing not only for her character but for the viewers; they really treat Callie just as well as all other characters even though she’s bisexual. She’s not special, just as normal as everyone else on the show.
Callie is also incredibly beautiful, funny and in her profession she is strong and successful. She shows that women can do all the things men can in a hospital - she works hard and she knows she’s good at what she does but she never lets it get to her head. She is still the sweet girl who loves with her whole heart and always steps up when her friends need her.
Of course, who could not love the girl who lived in the hospital’s basement and frequently dance around in her underwear.

Callie Torres: I used to believe in God, and marriage, and heaven and hell.
Louise O'Malley: But you don't anymore?
Callie Torres: I believe in love, and second chances.
