The sins of a caring heart are the most damning of all

One learns from their past mistakes.....and those without a conscious never repeat them. In addition to other things mentioned prior I have a twitch, hangup, personality fault or whatever label truly fits it properly in that I am very protective of my friends and their best interests. I cannot stand to see someone I care about mistreated by anyone ( Read more... )

It really is an interesting cultural/political discourse that you hint towarards, and I'd love to talk about it with you in an unbiased manner.

The framework is:
1) Belief: Men shouldn't hit women, especially women they claim to care about.
2) Belief: Men should protect women they care about, even if it means stepping on other people's toes; or worse.
3) Belief (and this is where the arguement/dicourse starts): Women are independent beings that shouldn't have to depend on men for any reason
4) Belief (itself controversial): Nobody should hit anyone, ever.

Thus begins a discussion. It is admirable for a man (or woman, for that matter) to stand up for people they care about. But maybe the idea that men should fight for women is old-fashioned and wrong, setting the progress women have made back many years. There are many women who would be insulted by a man who steps into their other relationships. They would assume the man is patronizing them and wanting to feel superior at any cost. But women really aren't as physically strong as men, and many don't stand a chance in a physically violent situation, especially since we are socialized not to fight physically.

More to come..
we should talk about this soon....
Fascinating "street sociology" project.....

I agree with most of what you said but I must point out that I did say that this holds true"especially with women" and not exclusively. Be it male or female my frustration occurs when an individual is being mistreated without seeming to realize it. Perhaps my ideals are to high when it comes to the treatment of others as I can only stand by and watch mistreatment occur for so long. For me tis not a matter of being a "hero"...more a matter of if no action is takne to right the situation I could not live with myself if and when I see something happening that is wrong.

We will talk:)

I can't offer any 'street sociology' jargon, like the DIVINE Miss Andrea can:-D But I can offer a hug and probably a good poem or book... or I can write you a poem... or book.

It's the way I am:)
