A Visit By Friends

Much has happened since the last time I wrote an entry in my journal. After the festivities on Antar 5 (I did not manage to sneak into the Doctor’s mind unnoticed, but he chose to let me stay and share the view of the fireworks nonetheless), we went to the Rift on Earth so I could replenish my energy. Our friend Captain Harkness suddenly arrived at my “doorstep” to properly introduce his colleagues to us, and while I could tell that the Doctor was uneasy about so much unexpected company, he allowed them all a short tour of my interior.

Lately, my Time Lord prefers to keep to himself more than he used to, at least in this incarnation, and I have to admit it is starting to concern me a little. He often sits in the library, lost in thought, and the glimpses I can catch before he chastises me for spying show me that they are not pleasant thoughts. I wish there was more I could do for him than assuring him of my everlasting companionship and taking him to places he might enjoy. It is for this reason that I was glad when Captain Jack and his friends came to us, as their chatter distracted him and gave him someone to talk to who could reply with words and body language, something I am unable to do.

Captain Jack is still rather unsettling to be around because of his impossible nature, but I do now know that he does not pose a threat and his psychic abilities have improved substantially, which makes it easier for me to assess and understand him. His mind certainly is an… interesting place, sometimes not unlike the Doctor’s, and other times very much not like the Doctor’s. I can not deny that this rouses my curiosity, even more so because he seems to be aware of this and enjoys it. He is a strange individual, and not only on account of existing against all laws of the universe.

His female friend, Gwen Cooper, was a delightful guest. The surprise and awe at my size was evident in her reaction and thoughts. She walked around my control room, hesitant at first, trying to take in its scope and reconcile it with what she had seen outside. She even had to touch my walls and feel their texture in order to make sure I was real. The Doctor and I like having this effect on new friends; lifting them from their old lives and perceptions into another dimension, broadening their horizons. It is my purpose, after all, and I believe part of his as well.

The other human, Ianto Jones, reacted much less enthusiastically. At first I was rather disappointed, but upon probing his mind a little I realized that he was simply accustomed to not showing his emotions openly. The amazement was still there; the attempt of explaining me with his limited understanding of space and physics, mixed with the desire to believe that there were wonders beyond his imagination.

After the two new humans had somewhat accepted my size, everyone settled down to engage in the human tradition known as having tea, which the Doctor is very fond of. It was obvious to me that Captain Jack would have loved to go on an adventure with us and show his friends the universe, but the Doctor ignored my attempts at suggesting as much. Despite seemingly enjoying their conversations, he was unfortunately reluctant to get too involved with them, and so the Torchwood team left us two hours later. I do wish he had spent more time with them, but at least Captain Jack made him promise to return soon. Of course, a soon to us might be very different from a soon to him though.

I apologize to rattus_aerius  for not following her request to talk about the changes I have made to my interior over the centuries yet. I simply did not wish to make this post any longer. However, I promise to include this in my next post, when I write about my newest passenger (as I did manage to acquire a companion of sorts for my Time Lord on the trip following the one to Earth).
