Right, so for the past month or so I've had a cold; runny nose, scratchy throat, post nasal drip and all that. About 2 weeks ago it seemed to have settled in my chest. And now I've been fainting when I cough. Not EVERY time I cough, but at least 3 times a day. I've never done this before, last time I fainted was well over 11 years ago. So, called the doc on the 20th, wanted an appointment, her office phoned back, told me to go to the emergency room.
Did so. They did a chest X-ray, EKG, bloodwork, urine, everything was "normal". OK, so why am I fainting when I cough? Vasovagal syncope was mentioned. They told me to check back with doc in a few days. Did so. Got an appointment on the 24th, AM. Yep, all my testing came back "normal", BUT, my sugar levels were "dangerously high" at 197. Hmm. Diabetes runs on both sides of my family but neither my mom nor dad have it. She said to follow a low-sugar diet and go for an 8 hr fasting blood draw as soon as I'm feeling better. She prescribed Zithromycin, tussin syrup and tessalon perls. The syrup is disgusting, bleh!
And I'm still fainting when I cough, sometimes. Scared the kids one night fainting into my rice dinner, scared myself one morning fainting into my bowl of cereal. Came to, shaking, wondering why I was wet and there was cereal all over me, the floor, etc. Cried out of frustration while mopping up the mess.
I hate this.
