Ok, kids, here's an update:

I worked Saturday and Sunday---my first days back since my accident at work, and I have to say now that I overdid it.  It did not seem so at the time, but in retrospect, I know I overestimated my ability to return to my normal routine.  I stopped taking the medication during the day, so that I could function with some ( Read more... )

Ok, I intend to do some research on this topic myself, but here's what I've heard: the state of Indiana is carrying out raids on bars and private clubs---especially the latter, since they operate on a slightly different set of rules than bars and taverns accessible by the general public---that serve alcohol, and that may or may not offer "gambling" of one form or another (e.g., tip boards, betting pools, 50/50 raffles, and/or electronic gambling machines [Cherry Masters]). Now, what might be the reason for this? Could it be that the casino boat industry gave a lot of money to the Mitch Daniels gubernatorial campaign? That could be part of it.

Here's are two quotes from the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette after a series of raids raised a lot of controversy in that community:

"Rep. Ben GiaQuinta, D-Fort Wayne, ignited a firestorm Thursday when he announced he will file a Freedom of Information Act request with the state to get the names of Allen County residents who have been complaining about illegal electronic gambling machines."

"But GiaQuinta on Thursday questioned whether the police actions are complaint-driven or are part of a state strategy to protect legal gambling interests, such as casinos, off-track betting and the lottery."

I intend to contact Rep. GiaQuinta and discuss the matter with him, and I will report back here as to what he tells me, if anything. From what I have been told, these raids are happening all over the state. I intend to follow this issue, and rake a little muck.
