I get the urge once in a while myself... But, I have not as yet gotten really deeply into it. I really should, though.

i traced my ancestry back to my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, michael thomas hammond, who was born in wales and emigrated to the united states around 1710, but that's as far as i can get... once they left wales, apparently they didn't care about who they were before... it is also made somewhat more complicated because of the fact that my great-great-grandfather was apparently the father of frank and jesse james (but nobody's sure because frank and jesse james were outlaws and didn't leave any records of who they were like people who aren't outlaws tend to do), and my great-great-great-grandmother was a creek indian...

*grins* I think that's kind of cool. I was wondering if I might be related to him, since I'm part Irish.

The same question crossed my mind, but I do not know how I could find out...

In a related story, archeaologists dug up an extremely tired looking skeleton of an ancient Irish woman.
