...had been thinking of the definition of "real men" recently, and wonder if the idea exists differently now than it did before, or if maybe if the following notion belongs solely to me.
i suspect to most, the typical narrative reads something like: real men chop wood, build things, sow their seed with brute force, are never sick, don't take time for frivolities, and never, ever cry.
while i think all of this is fine and good, i appreciate the other side of it far more. **EDIT** i appreciate the other side of it just as well.
the side where there was real honor in a hard days work, where when a man said he was going to do something, he'd do it even if there were a thousand swords between him and the task. where men held value in tradition, treated women like ladies, had the manners to never embarrass another man in front his family, and knew the difference between a white and black lie. he practiced a humble sense of pride and stood up for the little guy. i wonder whatever happened to all this.
that was the greatness of real men, and all that other virility stuff became downright sexy (or completely tolerable to the newly liberated woman) because of the other wonderful things about them. the two behaviours should never have parted ways. they were perfect friends and i think they miss each other something awful...but don't tell them i said that.
ps: it seems a lot of people have cabbie stalkers but we'll talk about it a bit more later.
