Toys just come to me on the tides of fate.
My former deputy left a medieval toy set on my desk sometime in the last two weeks - a cheap Playmobil knockoff from the dollar store. Before I'd even opened the box, I'd already gotten my joy out of it by bouncing through my boss's office and smiling I have a toy catapult and I missed Safety week training this year! then exiting stage left. Last Saturday, one of my coworkers increased its tension and range with a well-placed rubber band.
Last Thursday I took in the smiley faced lamp, which was promptly installed in the engineering bullpen. With four spacecraft being built simultaneously, everything is color coded. The gang promptly demanded the yellow smiley lamp be joined by purple, green and blue so all four had their match.
Work's been insane, but I snuck out in time Thursday night to meet Pink for trap. Friday night was a blissful evening at home with Roland, finally home from another work trip. Saturday, we went to Baltimore Bowmen, met our Shiremates and acquired archery gear. Prima was downright precious, shooting with her sister. We made them buddy up the entire course just to watch the sibling rivalry, while Niccolo just shook his head at his wife and sister-in-law. Fen was a big help with the gear shopping and general amusement, and Roland proved his mildly-in-the-manner, boldly-in-the-action motto yet again by shooting quietly and competently for someone that hadn't strung his longbow in a decade.
Sunday, we met Alan and the girls (Jen and Jimmy) at the indoor range.
(Yes, Jimmy counts as a girl. I have given him a "Girls Raised in the South" tshirt and he wears it.)
Roland put the new 1892 Winchester in play. Made in 1906, Roland bought this in auction, and rebuilt it himself after the local gunsmith declined to deal with the loose stock. Several manuals and videos later, my talented husband tracked down and few new parts and put the pieces back together again. It shoots beautifully - at least for all the girls (Jen, Jimmy and I). Roland has trouble cycling the action - some subtle tweak in how he's handling the lever.
So, if I'd just found time to pull out the pistol this morning, I would've covered all my target weapons within one week. But I was having too much fun with the Winchester.
Of course, I now have a stack of guns to clean...
