So, I was digging through some old photos and I came across a cache of images from a Morris Dancing Festival I went to a couple of years ago. Morris dancing is an odd practice, and I have to say that I love it, mostly for it’s sheer quirkiness and the amount of regional variety in terms of costume, dance and local tradition. How can you not love something so apparently daft?

As a practice, its steeped in ancient ritual, erotic symbolism and pagan ideas, yet is very polite and jovial about it, what with all the bells, stick bashing and hankie flapping. Nothing confers the raw sexual power of a primal Saxon God quite like a fully-grown man skipping about in a homemade costume covered in ribbons. Marvellous.

I need to go and watch The Wicker Man again.
