inertia

The author is having doubts about her future as an adventurer.

Kino wasn’t sure if it was the last straw, but she knew that whatever little resolve that remained was not enough to break away from the inertia of her current state.

How many times had she braced herself for the relentless, throbbing pain in her knee?
How many times had she suffered from the setbacks that came with injury.
How many times had she found herself handicapped?

Too many. All too many.

Kino was tired of pushing herself to the limits. It seemed that being an adventurer or learning dangerous kung-fu carried too high a price, one that she wasn’t sure if she was willing to pay for at all. Her achievements were nothing compared to her peers, but at least she could say that she had climbed a volcano in her lifetime.

For now, she just doesn’t want to budge.
