Odd Bird 2011 Holiday/Winter Jewellery Collection

Jan 15, 2012 13:05

Now that that the busy X-mas season is behind us I finally have a moment to post pics of the Odd Bird Holiday Collection! Well not the entire collection as that would be way too many photos (you can see that on both the website and FB page) but the highlights.
For this season I had several themed series that consisted of various pieces made from woodcuts, lockets, charms, vintage brass stampings and what not. I also had corresponding domino jewellery but not posting those pics (as you've already seen what those look like, ha ha)
"Winter Woods"

A walk in the Wintery woods reveals....

...Twigs, Trees...

...and wildlife that doesn't migrate or hibernate!

This series honours the beauty of the forest in the dead of winter!

(and to dress for the weather so you don't freeze to death like the Lady on the locket on the right here)
"Holiday Memories"

This series was more personal for me: things that evoked happy childhood memories of X-mas:

Hand-crafted holiday ornaments, the wishbone from the X-mas dinner turkey, planting Amaryllis bulbs etc.

"Ice Sports"

The winter holidays aren't all about staying warm & cosy inside: when there's ice & snow present there is fun to be had outside!

Playing hockey, going skiing...

.....and ice skating (whether your graceful at it or not!)
"Ballet Fantasy"

I wanted to have a series that didn't fall into a Wintery/X-masy category just for something a little different. Since I've been enjoying taking dance classes I thought why not choose Classical Ballet for this?

Although admittedly this can also fall under the Holiday Memories series since for many going to see a production of The Nutcracker is an X-mas tradition (it certainly was for me while growing up)

But there is not a Nutcracker character to be found in my pieces...just a few Swans as a homage to seeing the Kirov Ballet perform Swan Lake last year though!
"Charmed"

This series started out as a basic "hey lets put some assorted charms & baubles on a bangle" idea but then ended up falling into most of the collections mentioned above (such as the wishbone being part of the Holiday Memories etc)

Simple enough on their own, but when worn in multiples...

...they take on a whole new fun look!
I'm so pleased how they turned out (and how popular they were in the shops that sold them) that I have decided to carry on the idea into this year's designs!
And now of course I am already working away on new ideas for Spring 2012....always gotta be ahead a season  when your a Designer of shiny things!

x-mas 2011, jewellery, business, shiny new things, nice things, holiday 2011, odd bird
