Photo Safari: Dead Mall

Oct 04, 2011 16:02

Just a wee walk along Dundas St stands the Honeydale Mall.
Or rather what's left of the mall.  Although still "open", it can officially be classified as a Dead Mall now.
I thought it would make an interesting subject for a Photo Safari!

It was built in the early seventies with Woolco being the main anchor store.
It was never a fancy mall to begin with (guess Sherway Gardens stole that thunder) but at least I remember it being somewhat busy back in the day.
Sometime in the mid-1990's Walmart took over the Woolco space but then abandoned the location to move closer to Sherway.
And that's when things started to go downhill.....so may we present for your viewing pleasure:

The Death of Honeydale Mall

Don't be fooled by all them cars...that's mostly the staff of No Frill's parking there.
No Frills is now the "anchor" tenant (and btw it sucks for food selection compared to the other one in my hood)
Note the sign over the main entrance...anyone remember the neon Bumblebee's that used to there under the lettering?

At the former Walmart end the rest of the parking lot is empty.
Attempts to use that retail space for a Flea Market and furniture clearance have all failed.

The BMO pulled out of the mall years ago....

...as well as taking its Automated Teller machine with it.
So if you need cash you have no choice but to buy something at No Frills and get Cash Back at the check-out.

Lunch is no longer being served here.

Practically every store inside the mall is closed with a For Lease sign.

Sadly no one to lounge on all the 1970's mall furniture.

You know things are really bad when the Dollar Store has closed!

Aside from No Frills is this store that sells both pets and cell phones.

And that is what remains of Honeydale Mall.
Sad isn't it?
My guess is that whoever owns it is waiting for an offer from a developer.
At this point, who will really miss it once its levelled anyways?

the hood, dundas st, dead malls, photo safari, random stuff
