Today marks some interesting anniversaries:

30 years ago the Big Exploding Train DeRailment happened....the explosion flames could be seen as far a way as Kingston! It was epic for sure (since nothing else exciting ever happened in the burbs of Mississauga) and I was all too happy to evacuate as it meant NO school for the week!



That accident lead to several new safety guidelines for trains transporting chemicals through residential areas...although one would think it would make sense not to place several chemical tank cars all in a row before that accident happened.

And it was 40 years ago today that Sesame Street premiered. Here's the original opening to commemorate the occasion...as I don't need to write much about how the show influenced me as a young'in.
