George Gently on TV

George Gently is a BBC TV police procedural set in 1964 Northumberland with Martin Shaw playing Alan Hunter's ex-Scotland Yard Chief Superintendent. Hunter wrote almost fifty Gently novels in the last half of the twentieth century. Indeed, he wrote nothing else. Yeah, I recorded the two on o'er the last two Sundays with the intent of getting around to watching 'em one day.

I assume that the Alan Hunter in question did not provide spot illos for fanzines in the sensational 'seventies?

I fail to see why TV adaptors change things such as the locale of a series (though in general I see why they change things).

I am left wondering why I have not heard of Hunter before. Sounds like a less prolific John Creasey.

I think, dear Tim, that you are absolutely correct in your speculations about Hunter's lack of activity in comics fandom. Presumably, the gritty north east is more sensational than rural East Anglia in the minds of the producers.
