A day off

Hard to believe it had been over a year since the brat was born. He had half the place wrapped around his little finger, and those he didn't, well, he was protected from by the rest. She wasn't even worried about leaving him with people. Word had gotten around about her having some sort of protection that people didn't want to mess with. Not that Hermes had been around since before Leo was born, but Trent's mutilated statue in the school yard was warning enough. It was the whole reason she was leaving the kid with the tutor today and going for a short... time off.

Not that she could really go far, just one of the safe houses that was set up along the way to The Mountain. But it was a decent place. Food, bed, minimal electricity since they'd run wires from the town. Things had definitely changed in the past few years. She wondered if she'd have company, or if it would just be a day of rest and relaxation. Or maybe both... It's not like she'd had the company of another person since long before Leo'd been born, except for one fun night.

Flopping onto the bed backwards, hands behind her head and grinned up at the ceiling. That night had been interesting to say the least. She *almost* felt bad for not contacting Hermes afterwards. She’d long forgiven him for the shock he’d given her, though if she ever met up with him again, she’d still have to give him some shit. What were friends for? Then she met up with... well fuck... she couldn’t remember his name... and she had forgotten to thank Anne in the morning for room for the night, but she had said something to Helen, so she assumed it had been alright.

It was funny, she missed them all. Life was never quiet around them. Not that it was quiet here, but it was a different kind of excitement.
