the master's were actually riveting today. tiger woods fourth masters title and ninth major, that's huge. he's halfway to the next jack nicklaus (his golf idol) who has the record setting eighteen majors, six of which are masters. i realize that this probably sounds like absolute jibberish to most people, but to me it was quality entertainment. early today tbs was playing kevin costner's 'tin cup', which was sooooo bad that nathan and i opted for hil duff's 'raise your voice' instead (though it was only minimally better). the fictionalized account of the u.s. open was less stimulating than hil duff and amazingly less so than the actual real life thing.
i'm just a huge tiger woods fan, i want for him to do the impossible and beat nicklaus' records. my mom always compares tiger to the guys he's playing to win the current tournament (something he hasn't done in a while) but i, (much like tiger) see him as competing against nicklaus for that record of eighteen. in which case tiger is for once the underdog. there was one shot on sixteen, he had this awful position to hit from and it looked like it was going to be the turning point in the tournament but he chipped it and right before it sunk into the hole it paused, for just a second and then went through that extra revolution which for all intensive purposes saved him. he had SOOOO many shots like that today, big saves... it was high quality. i sound like a fool, a golf-loving fool. but honestly hole-in-ones like Immelman's on the sixteenth, yes that's right Immelman like Himmelman with out the 'h' and the whole tournament boiling down to a sudden death hole between two men who've been neck and neck for the entire third round. that's good television.
i don't expect any one to even remotely enjoy reading that, but i just got really into the master's today, what can i say?
