Thoughts on God

Aug 31, 2007 10:30

I woke up this morning to two Jehovah's Witnesses ringing my doorbell.  Persistent they were, so I finally broke down and opened the door to find a lady with a huge smile and a kid holding a bible.

"Ohhhh I'm sorry, did I wake you?"

"Uhhhhh..." is all I'm able to get out.

"I'll just leave this with you, this is all about how we are like birds, because birds have a system that guides them when they fly...but like birds, we're asking, what guides man?  So I'll leave this with you and you can find out and I'm very sorry to have woken you!  I'll come back another time."

"Sounds good!"  I say.

Door closes.  I toss the little magazine she hands me.  Pretty sure I guessed the answer about what guides man like he guides birds...could it be...oh i dont know, GOD?  Heck yeah, I'm a genius.

I'll hand it to them.  It does take courage to go door to door knocking on doors and preaching to people...people who may have religions of their own or just dont want to be bothered.  I mean, I'm a zealous supporter of the Republican party, but I'm not goin door to door saying, "Hello Sir or Maam, I'd like to tell you why Hilary Clinton sucks."

On the other hand though, I think it is  a little presumptious of them.  Because it kind of feels like the underlying message they are saying is "Hello you Godless Heathen, I know way more about God than you do, and even though youre not going to listen to this, I'll be getting a big check plus by God for trying to convert your evil behind while you're being poked in the butt by little red devil imps in hell!"

OK...they may not be that detailed in their thinking, but something along those lines.

I've been struggling with my belief in God awhile now.  I'm not sure if he listens to me.
