He's also curious as to how she died and was able to become a ghost, such things don't happen in his own world after all. Not without dangerous consequences. But he doesn't want to pry, he likes her enough that he doesn't want to ruin any kind of relationship he has with her if it's a touchy subject.

this is...basically, why shirley likes lavi so much. when they first met, she was adjusting to a large amount of people being exposed to her being a ghost! and the reactions were all very typical, and they've never worn on her - but it just gets old after the first few times. so her first conversation with him was, actually, on this level of two people talking. not a ghost and the living talking! SO THE FOUNDATION IS GOOD.

and even after he has since discovered her state of being, he doesn't bother her about it. majority of people approach her with fear and awe and or wanting help, answers, or something in that ballpark; and then, there is...drake. who she likes and she didn't leave without saving him from death - but he definitely toes this line of worshiping her. none of which she loves but she doesn't hate these reactions, either. ...mostly, because her capacity to put so much effort into emotions has been blown for a, uh, long while!

so it's refreshing and, actually, touching to her, which means shirley is automatically attached to lavi. even though she likes him, she wouldn't know how to define her relationship to him because anatole is introducing her to these experiences she hasn't had in forever and especially after belzac returned during the shadow event to be disappointed in her. she is, actually, really confused!! she doesn't understand herself and what she should do, if she is suppose to do anything, and if she wants to be attached to anyone here - this list is very long! but you get the point, haha. so if he asked her, she would...not know what to say.

in a lot of ways, they are just acquaintances, but then, she sort of subjects herself onto him in a way that is most definitely not. (which is probably a pretty good indicator of how out of touch she is, lmfao.) but they aren't friends in her mind or comrades or...anything. SHE DOESN'T KNOW. right now, it doesn't bother her, but if he approached her about it, it could easily head that way.

she just knows she wants lavi to be happy, and because she has a position to do more than to stand and watch him struggle, she does what she can.

...so yes, "having to readjust her personality around it" is pretty accurate. @_@ YOU ARE V PERCEPTIVE, LAVI.
