Maybe it's just me. I dunno. Maybe I'm missing all its subtle nuances, but am I imagining that The Grudge is really a silly, boring, rather pointless movie? How on Earth did it ever make enough money that it warranted spawning a sequel?? Ye gads.
Anyway, on the DVD front, this was a very good week! Firstly, the news about the May release of the second season of The Magnificent Seven. How long have we been waiting for that, my Mag7 flistees? Secondly, I was able to score brand spankin' new sets of Homicide Seasons 6 and 7, which typically retail for anywhere from $60 to $90, for $19 each, thereby completing that series in my DVD collection. (Now, if only they'd release MFU!) And thirdly, way back on 9/7, I shipped The Thin Man DVD set to someone in Australia, who, a month or so later, told me it never arrived. I inquired at my PO, who said they could do nothing, unfortunately, albeit understandably since there was no tracking number or insurance on the package. The recipient checked with her local PO, who told her they didn't have it nor, definitively, had it even reached the shores of Australia, which, huh? How could they know that definitively since the package had no tracking number or insurance? Oy. All was lost to us, both the price of the DVD set and the not inconsiderable shipping costs. Alas. But, guess what should be returned to me, this past Friday, 5 months later? Hee! Minus points to the Australian PO that definitively said it'd never reached Australian shores 'cause they're the ones that returned it - Hah! - but kudos to both the US and Australian mail services for getting it back to me, safe and sound. So it took a little trip 'round the world, but hey, Nick Charles' mojo was obviously at work to get it home.
And I need more Nick Charles icons. Hmm, I wonder if there is a classic film icon'ing community... One that takes requests. I'd love to have one of Nick, with the text "It's not true. He didn't come anywhere near my tabloids." Ah, Nick, I do love you so...
