Herky-jerkyness ahead. Much overtime was worked last week, and I am now playing fandom and LJ catch-up.
Spring has sprung, here in my neck of the woods, and my sinuses already feel like they're about to explode. Of course, I could be wrong about that because the "experts" assure that this spring will be an easy one for we seasonal allergy sufferers, and, of course, the experts be never wrong.
What I say? Stop mowing your grass, neighbors! Surely once a week is sufficient. Really, I mean surely.
Oy.
Anyway, some good news that is probably not news, by this point, to the MFU fen amongst us. The Man from UNCLE Season 1 DVD Set is due out in July! Hooray!! And it's moved up to #176 in DVD sales at Amazon already, so that is promising for the rest of the seasons coming out, too. I do hope it is, indeed, the entire first season and not some Very Special Episodes Compilation DVD Set, like the VHS releases, which were no more than any ep that was a two-parter and/or featured a big name guest star. But, both
Amazon.com and
DeepDiscountDVD, though scanty with the content details as yet, list it as Season 1, so I am hopeful. In a recent interview, Mr. Vaughn said he would be providing some commentary and such for the DVD release, so I am hopeful on extras, as well. But, since the man from UNCLE, for me, was Illya Kuryakin, Mr. McCallum's presence in the extras is also greatly desired.
BTW, for any Canadian folks checking in here, DeepDiscountDVD now has a Canadian site -
DeepDiscountDVD.CA. I can only vouch for the US version, but there, I have always found their service to be excellent, their prices typically the lowest, and their shipping always free. So, if you're in Canada, they might be worth a looksee.
I already have my MFU set on pre-order from DeepDiscountDVD, as well as the May release of
Swarmed, starring the inestimable Michael Shanks, and the July release of the book
Reading Stargate SG-1 from Amazon.
Hello, my name is Lumina~ and I am a fangirl.
From Amazon, re: Reading Stargate SG-1:
"Stargate SG-1 premiered in 1997 and over the course of eight seasons, the show has developed its own unique mythological superstructure. It has blossomed into a series driven by fierce fan loyalty, with lively Internet discussion groups, the proliferation of "textual poaching" in fan fiction and art, and popular annual conventions. This book is a lively critical celebration of both Stargate and its spinoff, Atlantis. Its characters, themes, representations of sexuality and "otherness" are discussed, along with its interaction with fan fiction, its locations in Canada, its ideological framing of an American point-of-view, and tensions between its humanistic morality and military/political objectives in the shows' plots. Included are an interview with a Stargate SG-1 writer and assessment of the fledgling Atlantis, an episode guide of the first eight seasons of Stargate SG-1 and the first season of Atlantis, and a glossary of terms."
I shall be interested to see if they actually spoke to any fanfiction writers or if the book will be riddled with the typical misconceptions of the mundanes and/or skewed towards the J/S 'shippers. I am not hopeful.
I must welcome
praderwilli to the LJ realm, and,
erika_sanely, you might just find an old friend there...
