What happens, when to save their parents marriages and to fix their own lives, they must travel back in time to keep people from changing the past?
Notes: I’ve been trying to write a fic for a while. When the fandom came up with the time travel idea, I ran with it. I have ideas and notes for this all over the place.

Rory paced the floor of his bedroom while Harmony and Sugar sat on his bed, their eyes following him. He was rather flustered, his hair a mess from having fingers run through it a few too many times. Harmony reached out a hand and grabbed him, making him stop his pacing before he worked ruts into the hardwood floor, which Kurt would never forgive him for. She gave him a sympathetic look and glanced at Sugar. She shook her head and Harmony was the first to break the silence.

“This is going to work. It has to! Besides, we tested the machine. It works just fine! We just can’t let them know who we are! I mean, you know because of that time continuum stuff.”

She let go of Rory and crossed her feet underneath her, her blue eyes narrowing as she thought about what they were going to do. They’re parents had all gone a little crazy. First Brittany and Santana had decided to call off a perfectly good marriage and then not long after Quinn and Rachel had done the same thing. What surprised the kids the most were Blaine and Kurt separating. Out of their parents, they were the ones they had thought were safe.

What were supposedly happy marriages for their parents, weren’t so happily ever after. Not long before her moms officially separated, Sugar heard them talking about how Santana still couldn’t accept who she was. And Harmony heard words thrown about with high school flings. Kurt and Blaine though was something that they had thought was written in the stars. They had all heard the stories of Kurt’s time at Dalton and Blaine following him to McKinley. It was the kind of thing Rory wished would happen for him. Especially since the girl he loved considered him nothing more than a friend.

Rory had been watching his dads from behind the wall at the top of the stairs in their house. They stood in the living room, voices hushed so as not to alert their child. He had strained to hear what they were saying, and words and names floated out to him that he didn’t recognize. By the time they had begun moving towards the stairs, he had found himself back in his bedroom, playing everything in his head.

Who was Sebastian? Why were his dads arguing about him? How could he have been the reason for the arguing and the nights spent with his dads in separate rooms? But Rory had developed a skill and he knew if he spoke to his aunts and even his uncle Finn, he could figure it out. And that was how he figured out what was going on with the adults he looked up to. It all traced back to this Sebastian. And Rory was determined to fix it.

It was him who had asked Sugar about her mom’s time machine, and thankfully Aunt Britney was more than forthcoming when Sugar had asked her to tell her about it. From there they had watched those Back to the Future movies and made sure that they were doing everything right. And yet he was the one who was worrying so about everything. Then again, it was his idea whether Sugar and Harmony had agreed or not. And it would his fault if it went badly.

Rory collapsed onto the bed and sighed loudly. Sugar and Harmony were all for this, but he was a little more skeptical. What if something happened and they were never born? That would completely suck. He kind of liked himself and didn’t want to just disappear. He hated that his dads weren’t together. They were too perfect to not be. And stupid boy with a crush on his dad was going to be the reason he lived in a broken home, or the reason his friends were going through this. On the other hand though, they had been planning this for months. Their plan was full proof.

Even if they were splitting up. Rory was certainly not comfortable with that. Especially considering he was being stuck with Sugar, whom he loved dearly, but she was not the smartest person. They had worked everything out though. Rory was posing as a foreign exchange student, Sugar was a new student at McKinley and Harmony was enrolling at some other school, so she could be competition for her moms.

In theory it was perfect, but Rory was a more realistic person and had to look at it logically. Harmony had taken the opportunity to tell him multiple times ‘Fuck logic.’ She was beautiful when she talked like that. She was beautiful all the time, but something about words like that coming out of her mouth was hot.

“Time continuum stuff? I enjoy myself Har. I’m just nervous. There is so much that could go wrong with this. What if we fail?”

“RORY ELIZABETH HUMMEL-ANDERSON.”

Rory and Harmony both turned their heads abruptly and looked at Sugar, at the look of pure anger on her face.
“We won’t fail, but if you say things like that, you’ll jinx us! Take it back Rory!”

She put both of her hands on the side of his head and stared at him intently. Under her scrutiny, he felt himself growing uncomfortable. It was moments like these where Sugar surprised everyone with how forceful she could be.

“Alright! We won’t fail. We’re just going to have to be very very careful. Ok?”

Sugar let her hands drop and smiled brightly. Harmony nodded and fingered the gold star necklace lying against her neck. As if they’d rehearsed it, Harmony and Sugar spoke in perfect unison.

“We promise we’ll be careful!”

Rory closed his eyes and took a deep breath. They were really going to do this. He was just going to keep his fingers crossed that they could all keep this up. And he prayed that his accent wouldn’t fail him. It couldn’t. He had to be flawless and save his dad’s love. He needed them to be safe. If they couldn’t last he had no hope.

“Ok, go home. Finish packing whatever you’re taking with you and make sure it can’t affect anything. We DO NOT want to screw this up. This is our only chance to fix this… mess.”

He stood up, pulling Sugar and Harmony by the hands. Shooing them out of his room he shut the door and collapsed onto his desk chair, staring at the nearly empty bag sitting on his floor. What could he possibly take with him? He ran a hand through his hair, the already messy hair nearly defying gravity with its height. He steadied himself and stood up, grabbing the bag and slinging it onto his bed.

He wasn’t even sure how long they were going to be gone. Or worse if they were even coming back. He wasn’t sure why they were trusting Doc as much as they were. This could be disastrous and then they would have ruined everything. He wandered over to his closet and walked inside. Turning on the light he started walking up and down looking at his wardrobe. Being the only son of two rather well known men, his closet was a little on the ridiculously huge and full side. His daddy Kurt made sure that he always had the best, if sometimes questionable, clothes money could buy.

He started pulling shirts off the hanger as he went, his arms becoming heavy from the large amount he was planning on stuffing in his suitcase. He couldn’t be too sure on what he might need. He threw the shirts on the floor in a pile and began pulling pants. He continued with the underwear and undergarments adding them to his pile before finishing with about 30 pairs of socks. He paused and turned to pick up his pile of clothing and was greeted with a mound of clothing almost half his size. He bent over and worked his arms underneath, struggling to pick everything up and not drop it. He somewhat waddled to his bed and flipped the clothes onto it.

Breathing heavily, he started pulling things apart and folding them. It was a tedious process, folding, but it was calming. It gave him time to think, though he certainly didn’t need more time. The longer he thought, the more frayed at the ends he became. They were really going to do this. They were actually going to go back in time. He took in a few big gulps of air and counted to ten. Slowly letting out his breath he stuffed in the last few pairs of socks into his bag and stepped away. Looking around the room he began searching for a few more items that he needed to take with him. He had to be extra careful to not take anything that could be a trigger for his dads.

He grabbed the watch his Uncle Finn gave him for his 13th birthday and put it on, walking around his room. He picked up a few hats, and grabbed his stuffed monkey. No matter how childish it seemed, he needed it. It was such a comfort too him. He stared at a picture on his desk; it was taken just last year, before everything had started going wrong. It was a simple picture, just Rory standing in the middle of his fathers. Blaine’s arm draped across Kurt, both resting on Rory’s shoulder. He looked at it for a moment before picking it up. He was taking a big risk with what he was about to do, but he felt he needed too. He walked back to his bag and buried the photo frame under his pile of clothing adding his phone charge, almost as an after thought. Zipping up the bag, he glanced once more around his room.

Rory opened his bedroom door and walked down the hall into the bathroom. Opening a cabinet under the sink, he pulled an overnight bag from the neatly organized shelf. Kurt was forever reorganizing Rory’s bathroom. It was just one of those things he loved about his dad. He set the bag on the counter and began stuffing things in side. His toothbrush and toothpaste were added to his shampoo and his rolled up favorite towel. He tossed in a bottle of headache medicine. He was sure at some point he was going to need them. He added in his deodorant and a bottle of cologne. Closing the bag he made his way back into his bedroom. Unzipping his case he stuffed the overnight bag into his almost too full suitcase.

He glanced around his room once more and then glanced at his watch. It was two o’clock. He was supposed to meet Sugar and Harmony at Sugar’s at two thirty, but Sugar only lived five minutes away from him. He rezipped his bag and grabbed the strap. He slung it onto the shoulder and looked around one final time. Feeling sure that he had everything he closed the door to his room and headed out into the hall. Making his way down the stairs and into the living room, he set his bag down on the couch and walked into the kitchen.

Opening the fridge door he grabbed a water bottle and pulled out the things to make a sandwich. He assembled everything on the counter, and grabbed a bag of chips from the cabinet. Before adding the top piece of bread, he piled chips on top of the cheese and placed the bread down, mashing it with his hand. Taking a bite from the sandwich he glanced at his watch again. Two ten. He was making good time. He stood at the counter and finished his sandwich. Putting the dish in the sink, he grabbed his bottle of water and walked back out into the living room.

He looked around and sighed. The living room looked so….. happy. It said nothing of the anger, and the sideways glances and the cold shoulders. When it came to Rory, his dads were so happy, but dealing with each other was another story. They were just not in love. And that broke Rory’s heart. He shook himself out of his reverie. This time travel thing was his key to right everything. And if he ever met this Sebastian guy, he was not going to be accountable for his actions. He slung the strap back on his shoulder and looked around once more before walking through the front door. He locked the door and pulled his phone from his pocket, hitting speed dial for Harmony.

She was only a year older than Rory and the same age as Sugar, but while Harmony was only a sophomore, she already had her learner’s permit. So long as she was careful, Rachel and Quinn would let her take their spare car out. Rory waited in his driveway for the familiar car to pull up. He only waited for a few minutes and smiled when Harmony maneuvered the car into his driveway. Opening the back passenger door, he shoved his bag into the backseat beside Harmony’s much larger bag. Or rather bags. He should have known she would pack her entire closet.

He shook his head with a smile and closed the door before climbing into the passenger seat. Harmony had her ipod plugged into the radio, showtunes playing through the speakers. Rory loved that she could tell him anything about any musical. It was one of her goals to watch every musical ever made. She had coerced Rory and Sugar into watching quite a few of them. He watched her for a moment. She turned the radio down and the looked at him, a smile on her face.

“I know what you want to say. I over packed. I’m a girl! I need options! There is no telling how long we’ll be gone!”
Rory laughed.

“I wasn’t going to say anything. We’ve been friends how long? I know how you are. The question remains though. Are we sure we’re doing the right thing? I still don’t like that you won’t be at McKinley.”

She patted his hand and put the car into reverse, pulling out of the driveway and turning out onto the street.

“I need to be able to get my mom’s attention somehow. You know how Mama is. She’s always been so driven and she spent senior year trying to get into NYADA. I need to be able to show her competition. Her and Uncle Kurt. Besides, depending on how long this takes, I was thinking of transferring to McKinley. That way I can be with you and Sugar and closer to Mom and Mama.”

She turned down Sugar’s street and Rory looked at her, his eyebrows knitted together.

“I guess that makes me feel a little bit better. So long as this all works according to plan, we’ll be ok.”
Harmony nodded and pulled into Sugar’s driveway and turned off the ignition. She rotated in her seat and grabbed Rory’s hand.

“Rory. It’s all going to be ok. You are stressing far too much. We can only plan for so much and then we rely on our parents. We will talk every day, I promise. I couldn’t go very long without talking to you.”

She leaned over and pressed a kiss to Rory’s forehead.

“Alright darling Rory Hummel-Anderson, bring your bags and your adorable fake Irish accent and let’s go back in time.”

Rory closed his eyes for just a second and resisted the urge to touch his forehead. The spot where she had kissed him was tingling. He shook his head and climbed out of the car. Grabbing his and Harmony’s bags, they made their way into Sugar’s house. They had chosen today because all of their parents were at work. No chance of parental interference. Harmony lead the way into Sugar’s bedroom as Rory made a pit stop in the living room and set down the bags. He walked down the hall and into Sugar’s open bedroom. Harmony was perched on a suitcase while Sugar attempted to zip it.

Finally succeeding, Sugar turned around with a grin.

“You ready for this guys?”

Harmony glanced at Rory and climbed off of the suitcase. Standing up, she straightened her shirt and adjusted her jeans.

“Ready as we’ll ever be!”

Rory nodded in affirmation and chewed on the inside of his lip, the ball of nerves in his stomach steadily growing larger. Sugar picked up the bag and motioned for the other two to follow her out of her room. She set the bag down next to the others and took a deep breath, absentmindedly scratching the cat that was perched on the back of the sofa.

“Alright. Let’s go load that time machine down. I told my mom’s I was staying at Harmony’s. We’re having a sleepover. So I told them goodbye. I’m good. I’m ready let’s go! Lord Tubbington the Second doesn’t approve, but I told him I would tell Mom that he was drinking again if he told on us, so we’re good!”

She picked up her bag and opened the door, waiting for them collect their things and go out before her. She locked the door and walked around to the garage, Harmony and Rory following her. Opening the garage door, she smiled brightly. Her mom had taken a lot of inspiration from those Back to the Future movies, going even so far to make it out of a DeLorean.

Sugar pulled open both doors and shoved her bag into the back seat. She waited for Rory to put his and Harmony’s bags in with hers. It made for a tight squeeze, but Harmony had volunteered to ride with the bags and she was small enough to only be slightly squished. Rory leaned against the back of the car and pinched the bridge of his nose.

“This is going to be hard. We’re going to have to be very careful and we are going to have be on the same page. Sugar, you’ll be at McKinley before me. I am staying with Aunt Brittany, but I won’t be getting there until a few days after school starts. Harmony, you will definitely have to keep us up to date. I know you’re staying with Sugar but we won’t see you as often.”

Sugar and Harmony both nodded and Harmony played with her star necklace. Rory knew it had been a gift from Aunt Rachel. He took a breath and steadied himself. This was his idea and he might have been the youngest, but he was the man and he had to take care of Sugar and Harmony. He smiled and hoped his acting skills were as well as he hoped.

“We’ve got this. We’ve been working on this for months. My accent is perfect, my backstory is perfect. Sugar, you have everything worked out and you’re going to be great. Harmony, my favorite actress. You will be flawless. This is going to work. And our parents will be ok. Now I think it’s time to get this show on the road.”

Rory watched as Sugar and Harmony both laughed and started climbing into the car. He let out another breath and glanced around. He felt a pang as he realized they had so much riding on this. But he was going to do everything in his power to make sure that his life was whole again. He climbed inside the car and settled into his passenger seat. Sugar’s mom had really studied the car from those future movies. They had even tested it and it worked at 88 miles per hour.

He buckled in and turned around to check on Harmony. She smiled at him from her rather miniscule seating area. She gave him a thumbs up and pulled a slouch hat from the purse she had slung across her chest. He turned back around was met with Sugar’s purse smacking him in the chest. He set it in the floor board and laughed. Sugar turned the car on and looked at her friends.

“Alright. Here we go!!”

She pulled the car out of the drive and stopped, the car facing the long stretch of road ahead of them. She hit the accelerator and Rory felt his stomach shoot into his throat as the speedometer climbed. Thirty miles an hour, forty, fifty, seventy. As the car hit the 88 mark, the car hit a blinding flash of white light. Rory closed his eyes and tried not to scream.
