More Stuff I've Been Reading

Buffyverse

Portraits of the Lost by Yalu (Angel & Angel Investigations, G, 1261 w, complete)
On memory and grief. I love how Angel's feelings about his friends resonate with the kind of feelings some of us had this spring (or earlier!) about Buffyverse canon -- as the author's note says, "a mourning of sorts, trying to remember the good bits with the looming shadow of the bad".

The Slytherin!Willow verse by zedpm (Willow, T, 46 K words, WIP!)
Admittedly, this feels more like a Harry Potter story than a Buffy story, but there's some delightful crossover worldbuilding in the epigraphs, and I, for one, am pretty darn invested in what this version of Willow is doing to the Potterverse.

Discworld

Honed by melannen (Vimes/Vetinari, G, 3042 w, complete)
This story perfectly caters to my needs, which are 'this dynamic sure does something for me, but I don't exactly want to see them boink'.

Three Scenes from the Married Life of Commander Samuel Vimes and Lady Sybil Ramkin by KannaOphelia (Sybil/Vimes, M, 1870 w, complete)
And this is simply adorable.

Tolkien

Lembas-Fall by spiritinthespacebar (G, 838 words, complete)
The ecology of Mordor.

things that go bump in the night by DeHeerKonijn (Gimli/Legolas, OCs, M, 3551 w, complete)
The smut is happening behind a wall in the other room, and the POV characters are just trying to get some sleep. >:c

Let's Talk About Love by starryeyedknight (Sam, Legolas, T, 4200 w, complete)
Two ace spectrum characters having a conversation about sex, that's it, that's all the story I need.

Good Omens

Tokens of Esteem by MiraMira (Aziraphale x Crowley, T, 1389 w, complete)
Aziraphale and Crowley sending each other gifts throughout the centuries: this, too, is all I need in a story.

Origific

Follow the River Down by SassySnowperson (slash, Explicit, 17,739 w, complete)
The main ship is perfectly fine, but the background relationships are what I love about this story: the protagonist and his daughter; best friends who used to date and there's still a bit of chemistry there but mostly they just make rock and roll together; and of course, the relationship between artists and audience. I appreciate that this story goes into a nice nuanced treatment of some LGBT+ themes. SassySnowperson has made good use of sensitivity readers, and it shows.

The Space Emperor by toadstar a.k.a. glumshoe (slash, T, 41 K words, WIP!)
The enemies-to-lovers dynamic is GLEEFUL, the worldbuilding is great, and I'm always here for characters being introduced to the concept of empathy.

Steed Girl by frogtiefirbolg (femslash, Explicit, 9 K words, complete)
FrogtieFirbolg writes some impressively strange NSFW stories, or used to (not sure what he's up to these days). This one's sci-fi about the way corporations dehumanize their employees. Mind the tags!

Unfamiliar Rituals by noblebutch (femslash, Explicit, 3.6 K words, complete)
Some light fun, in which one character doesn't believe in gods or magic but is VERY determined to get laid, while the other character has found a willing participant for her pagan sex ritual. A good time is had by all.
