Okay, I know I've already mentioned @fandomtrumpshate at least twice this year, but what the heck. It can have its own post.
So, @fandomtrumpshate is a US-based online auction of fanworks, with the proceeds going to charities. Their list of supported nonprofits is
over here and includes organizations that work to support immigrant rights, access to clean water, investigative reporting, natural disaster relief, a fairer voting system, LGBT+ rights, and education on the environment and human rights, as well as organizations that work against hate groups and sexual violence.
Even though it turned out that, personally, writing on request stresses me the eff out, participating last year was also really rewarding, creatively and otherwise. I'm pleased with the things I made for the auction (a
moodboard/collage thingy for @hannah's story Set Off Like Geese and the
Ballad of Wishverse Giles for @gracenm). And I got some highly specific shinies as thank-you gifts for my own donations:
an illustration for one of my fem!Spike ficlets by azul_ora and
a Buffyverse fic featuring an obscure Latvian mythical creature of my choosing by @cornerofmadness.
I can attest that the event is very well-organized, the deadline for making stuff is long (ten months!), and the default starting price for auctions is 5 dollars. So one doesn't have to be filthy rich or a fast writer/creator in order to give it a go.
This year, I'm going to offer another
fic moodboard (or banner if my high bidder prefers) for someone's Buffyverse story. And, on the bidding side of things, I plan to look for podficcers who might be willing to work with some of my longer poetry. POD POETRY. *g*
So heads up that creator signup is open till January 31st, bidding will happen in the last week of February, and here's the @fandomtrumpshate
info post with all the other deets.
