lullabye for a stormy night [ OPEN ]

[ Nia sits in the music room and stares blankly ahead. Her headache's fading and all the visions of her brother have long since gone. An old Earth song plays in the background and the woman can't help but let out a small sigh. She should be happy that everything is getting back to what passes for normal on this station, but she's left with a ( Read more... )

[Jen has heard the music and come to investigate. She's still getting her bearings on the station and trying to avoid people, but music is a balm to her troubled heart, something that helps her forget her often brutal life as a maquis.

When she notices a human sitting there, though, she tenses slightly.]

If you want to be alone...

[ Nia's startled out of her reverie and looks up at Jen with a slightly shocked expression. ]

O-oh! No... No, it's alright. You can come in, if you like.

[Jen nods tersely, then steps into the music room (her hip has almost healed so she's not limping so noticably anymore). It's the first time she's been in there, and her eyes are drawn to the various instruments. There's even a Bajoran belaklavion propped against a wall.

She keeps the other woman in her peripheral vision. It's a habit that's served her well as a fugitive.

She's not exactly one to initiate conversation, so there's an awkward silence.]

[ Awkward silences are something Nia's used to and they don't bother her as much as they used to. Still, she feels a bit out of sorts as she reaches to change the song. As the music flows around her, she can't help the small smile that crosses her face as she remembers the first time her brother played this one.

"But why are they talking about spaceships? And aren't they called starships?"

The music wasn't exactly her taste, but it was one of the more mellow songs that Tristan had loved so she kept it on and let the almost monotone voice of the singer put her back into her spaced out state. ]

[She moves closer to where the other woman is, listening to her choice in music. It's not something she's familiar with, but it's not too bad. She presumes it's earth music.

Finally deciding she can't just ignore her, she pulls another chair out and sits with the back facing outwards, leaning on it.]

Do you play an instrument? Or are you just a listener?

[ She's a bit surprised by the question, and looks up to stare at Jen. It takes her moment to stutter out an answer. ]

I-- Ah... mainly just a listener. I used to play a bit of piano, but I haven't touched one in years.

[Jen nods, then stares off into space for a moment as though trying to recall an earlier memory.]

I'm the same with the belaklavion.

[She points over to it.]

My mother thought I might have talent. She was wrong. About a lot of things, actually.

Belaklavion... what kind of instrument is it? I don't think I've ever seen one before.

Woodwind. Pretty difficult to play. It's the native to Bajor.

What was the music you were listening to?

The first song was an old Earth song my grandmother used to sing to me when I was little. The second is another old Earth song, but it was one of my brother's favorites.
