[ somehow, he knew that the program would be there, silently thanking jadzia, despite the fact that a good level of his stress was centered around her, for having it available and saving him the trouble of having to program one himself. he did have to use his authority as a commander to set the level of difficult to the highest setting, but it was ( Read more... )

[ Nia was just leaving her quarters, heading for either the library or these holodecks she'd heard about, when she caught sight of the bruised and bloodied Worf. Her eyes went wide and she stopped short, staring at him with a shocked and slightly scared expression. But, she reasoned, if there was anyone dangerous on board, someone would've mentioned it. So with her flawed logic supporting her, she inches along the opposite side of the corridor, trying not to look at Worf, but she can't help her eyes flicking towards him now and again. ]

[ worf had received many such stares at the academy and during his first year of on board the enterprise-d, as well as the first few months he spent on deep space 9, but it had been a long time since someone had watched him in such a manner. yes, he was well aware of the fact that it was quite rare and remarkable for there to be a klingon in starfleet -- even more so that he held the rank of commander and was first officer aboard the federation's flagship -- but people were well aware of his existence now. he had to remind himself that there were some aboard this station who were not as accustomed as those in his time were.

he paused and turned his attention to the woman. ]

I am a Klingon.

[ he offered up, just in case she had never seen his species before. it was rare, but it happened. ]

I'm... aware of that. You are also... bloody.

[ She stops walking and just gives Worf a concerned look with fear still tinting it. ]

Are... are you. Ah... alright, sir?

Yes. These are worthy scars that will heal of their own accord. I am fine--

[ he eyed her uniform. it was 23rd century, one of kirk's uniforms. he knew how to read the rank, though. ]

--Commander.

[ a pause. ]

I am Commander Worf of the USS Enterprise-E from stardate 2380.

I'm Lieutenant Commander Nia Harness, stardate 2258, stationed at Starfleet Academy as an astrophysics professor.

[ She moves forward towards Worf a bit and fidgets. ]

Are... are you sure they're alright? They won't get... infected?

Klingons are accustomed to being wounded.

[ it was odd, being asked if he'd be alright. most didn't bother. they saw he was a klingon and accepted his species as a valid explanation for any oddities he might be displaying. ]

I-if you're certain. I... suppose I should. Leave you to your business then, Commander.

It was... an interesting experience. Meeting you. Oh, that sounds insulting doesn't it? I'm sorry.

It is not insulting at all and I have nowhere specific to be at this time.

[ it had been a while, but he was used to it. he wasn't like most klingons, after all, his presence in starfleet aside. he'd learned at a young age to hold back that aggressive klingon nature and calm himself. it was necessary when dealing with members of species klingons could break in half with one hand if they wanted to. not that worf wanted to. ]

Klingons are still enemies of the Federation in your time, aren't they?

Well. Yes. But if you're a Commander in Starfleet then it must mean you're not hostile. I think.

[ She swallows hard and the frightened look is back on her face. ]

Unless I... misjudged you?

[ oddly enough, worf chuckles -- albeit briefly, but still a chuckle. he found that honestly amusing and refreshing. ]

You judged correctly. And by my time, the Klingon Empire is the Federation's closest ally.

[ Nia lets out a small, relieved sigh and gives Worf a tiny, shy smile. ]

Forgive me, that's a large change and... my interpersonal skills... aren't exactly exemplary.
