You shall all think that I am insane for what I am about to say. In my head it sounds poetic, perhaps it is just inane. If you know me, you know that I love to read. I am currently rereading what is probably my favorite book of all time, East of Eden by John Steinbeck. For some reason, I have been thinking about the way I read alot lately. I guess I was trying to explain it to somebody, I read very quickly usually, but not always...anyway, let me get to the point.
To me, a book is a piece of music and reading is a dance. Some books are like popsongs, you know which ones I'm talking about, those silly little books that are formulaic and don't challenge your mind. But they are enjoyable to read, they bounce along very quickly and you have fun dancing through them. Some books are formal waltzes, others are sassy, a tango or a salsa. East of Eden is a rich song, with highs and lows, haunting melodies and exciting crescendos. The dance is a challenging one, but all the more rewarding for it. My mind goes leaping, spinning through the fast parts, lingering and savoring the slow parts. The dance is exhausting, but I leave it feeling fulfilled.
Okay, now, I've said my peace. I don't care if you think me stupid, but I needed to get that out and share it.
