I was watching a live Pro-life call-in TV show on the God network and I saw an opportunity to state a defense to the argument of the immensely villanized "Partial Birth Abortion," which the particular show was about. I called the number on the screen and immediately talked to an operator. "Hello, my name is Dan Gross and I am a Harvard Medical student who is currently studying abortion. I would like to talk about the terrible, awful things they do to these poor children." I heard whispering in the background and the operator went back on the phone, "Okay, we'll put you on the air right away! Thankyou for calling!" So all of a sudden, the host of the show was announcing my name and I could hear his voice over the phone. I then proceeded to destroy the main argument of the entire show. "I would like to clarify a few things. 'Partial Birth Abortion' is actually a made up term by the Pro-life movement. The actual medical term is Late Term Abortion and it is only done in the rare occasion when both the mother and the baby are at serious risk of dying. It is not a convenience for the mother, but something that nobody wants to do, but saves many mothers' lives a years. So really, it's not that big of a deal!" The host instantly hung up on me and there was a five second period of dead air in the studio, which probably seemed like a lifetime to whoever was on the set. Then he said "Tha, tha, that's just your opinion!"
It really feels good to shut down a broadcaster of lies on the air. If you truly call them on it, they got nothing as far as arguments go.
