Last night,
Blue Cheer was playing at the Dame. A little background info is necessary here, perhaps. Blue Cheer was the first heavy metal band. Ever.
(I'll pause here for a second to allow my readers to fully absorb this fact and its implications.)

Vincebus Eruptum was released in '68--Deep Purple was only just coming together (as was Zep), Sabbath was still jazz fusion, and BOC was still SWU. Given my metal roots and the fact that music is such an important part of my life--nay, my essence--seeing BLUE CHEER (who have up until very recently been doing shows only overseas) is kind of like
meeting one's maker. Now, I had to work last night, so I was exceedingly crabby about this whole mess. But by some act of divine intervention, Ben agreed to wake himself from sleep (at 7PM, mind you) and came in to cover my ass so I could go.
AND
GOD SAID, "LET THERE BE METAL." AND THERE WAS. AND GOD LOOKED UPON HIS CREATION AND SAW THAT IT WAS GOOD.
These dudes are like, 60 (no exaggeration there), and they look like death, and they KICKED MY ASS! Old musicians are awesome, but old musicians with DISTORTION PEDALS are a whole new level of awesomeness to which none compares. They sound just as hard as they did back then, and they can swing it around and play some really soulful bluesy stuff that just blew our minds.
It was freaking AWESOME.
