Good and bad...
First the good.
I just got back from a pretty awesome concert, David Bazan with Headlights opening.
I got to meet Bazan shortly before he went on stage. He was really down to earth and friendly, and autographed my copy of his EP. He played a nice mix of stuff - four songs off his newest album, a few off the EP, a few Pedro The Lion tunes, and a few question-and-answer segments. He had Blake Wescott (of Bloomsday and a few billion other bands) playing lead guitar, and had a full band setup that was a lot more rockin' than I expected. Not really any complaints here.
I was pleasantly surprised by Headlights, who I wasn't familiar with before tonight. They had a sort of spacey pop sound, with lots of weird guitar and keyboard sounds and sweet guy and girl harmonies. I'm listening to their most recent CD right now, it's a lot more mellow than their live show, but I'm digging it.
And now the bad...
Alex Chilton died!!! We have lost a truly gifted yet underappreciated pop songwriter, and I'm not really sure what to say. As someone who pretty much worships anything that falls into the "power pop" category, this really fucking sucks. Blah. RIP.
Oh well... guess that's about it for now. The End.
