Menagerie or 'Springtime for Ten' Ten/Rose, PG, 358
"Doctor, you can't keep the animals," Rose leant against the console, trying not to succumb to the Doctor's pout as he cuddled one of the lambs.
"Why not?" he whined, "I let you keep Mickey."
"Mickey wasn't a pet," she rubbed her head, feeling a headache coming on. "Just take them back."
"Fine," he grumbled, reluctantly opening the door and leading all the various lambs, chicks, foals and calves out of the door. "You didn't let me keep Arthur either."
"Where would you keep a horse?"
"Bigger on the inside!" he shouted back. Rose sighed and went after him, if she wasn’t careful they’d end up with a mini menagerie and she was not cleaning up after them.
The Doctor was leaning on one of the fences when Rose found him. He was petting one of the lambs with a smile on his face and Rose just couldn’t help but smile herself. She walked over to him and leant against his side,
“Thank you for today Doctor, best Easter I’ve had in a long while.”
The Doctor chuckled and wrapped his arm around her, pulling her closer, “I’ve had fun too Rose. Maybe a bit of downtime is good.”
They stood there together for a while, just watching the animals as they played and ran around.
“Rose?”
“Yeah?”
“Ready to get going now?” The Doctor rubbed his neck and smiled sheepishly. Rose just laughed; he could never stay still for too long, even if he was the one who suggested an Easter break.
“Okay Doctor, but it’s my turn to choose this time,” she ran ahead of him into the TARDIS and pretended to press some buttons.
“No!” the Doctor pinned her arms behind her back and quickly stepped in front of her before patting the console soothingly. Rose shook her head and leant against the railing behind her, watching as he hopped and skipped around, pressing buttons and throwing levers (and really did he need to do all that?) when she noticed something. Nestled in the Doctor’s wild brown hair was something yellow and fluffy, a chick! She smiled, maybe she’d let him keep one pet today.
