First off, let me say this. I don't understand the term "reverse racism." To me, racism is racism no matter who it comes from or who it is directed to. Claiming that there has been "reverse" racism implies that the only ones who can be racist are whites. NO, this is not true. Racism can come from anyone, of any background, any political or economic standing and no matter who you are it is equally as bad as the next person.
Someone at work today called me a "racist, white supremacist bitch" for doing nothing more than saying I did not vote for Obama. I consider this the same level as me calling her the "n-word." Both are disrespectful. However, because I am white and she is black I get called the racist? Now, don't misunderstand, I have never once called her any derogatory name. My point is that she can say whatever she wants, while I have to hold my tongue and watch what I say? Besides, I'm not sure that I did anything to deserve being called that.
I've also been told today that repression is over and its a whole new world that we are now living in. I'm sorry, but if you are "repressed" at this point it is purely because you have let yourself be that way. "But we as a black community have been held down for years." No, at one point yes, but today NO. You have all the same rights that I do, attend the same schools as me, can go to any store/restaurant/public place that you desire. No, you are not being held down.
"Once Obama puts the new tax plan into place I'm gonna get me some rims" Yes, please do that, because that is exactly what Obama had in mind when he was making up this tax plan. Oh, and when you spend all the money on your rims and don't have any left for food, rent, or your children don't worry, because Pelosi and Obama will work together to spend BILLIONS of dollars of this countries money to bail you out of debt. Nevermind that we as a country are up to our ears in debt, we are worried about you because you HAD to have those rims. Disgusting.
Moral of the story. Obama is not a bad guy. I don't think everything he has on his agenda is good for this country AT THIS POINT IN TIME. It has nothing to do with his race or religion. What I am the most worried about is how the black community is taking this as their "newfound freedom" around here. I've had someone tell me today that they can basically do whatever they want because now that Obama is president they can't get in trouble. For one Obama is not yet president, he is president ELECT, and two there are still laws for ALL people, white and black, that we ALL have to follow just like there have been since the beginning of this country.
I hope this works out well.
