[The smoke had not yet cleared from the sky, and many too close to the burning embers that were left of the once great city were still choking on its ashen remains. To the victors went the spoils, and the Achean men divided up what was left, arguing and fighting amongst themselves when two wants came into conflict.
One had very little interest in what the hollowed-out city had to offer. Blood had already been spilled more than once since the battle had officially ended, and the adrenaline was wearing out as the boy searched for any trace of resistance, any hidden fighter among the ruins. He paid only enough attention to listen respectfully when Odysseus and Agamemnon came to speak to him - Odysseus for actual deference, Agamemnon because Odysseus had advised it.
Was this all there was? Should he return to Scyros now that the battle was through? Neoptolemus had no intention of doing that. Even in death, he hoped grandmother Thetis would not allow his body to be returned to that place, perhaps he could even instead be burned and have his ashed left on Leuke with his father. Perhaps.
Perhaps there was another fight waiting for him, even still.]
