(no subject)
Just back from a family visit to the Sunshine Coast, from Gibsons to Burnaby in just over two hours. Not bad - thank-you, BC Ferries!
My eyes are burning like candles that light the way home for no one. Running around for the past several days, from work to gig to work to rehearsal ... repeat until I can hardly remember my own name. Don't get me wrong: it's good, having all this music in my life and I'm often looking forward to the next show, whatever it may be. Still, it's becoming more and more evident that my body is slowing down as I become more and more thoroughly entrenched in my so-called "middle age", which does suck mightily. On the plus side, I don't feel the need to buy a ridiculous Italian sports car or acquire a trophy wife in a desperate attempt to hang onto the vestiges of my ever-decaying youth. I was never really good at being young; hopefully I'll do a better job of being comfortable in my own skin now that I'm older.
Went to H&R Block in Sechelt today to get my 2009 income tax assessment, and received some very good news: I'm getting a credit of approximately $1,500 this year! Of course, the bad news is that I currently owe Revenue Canada $6,000 to $7,000, but hey! Every bit helps. Since I'm still working only part-time, there's no real way I could pay this off right now without having to rely upon the credit card more than I already do. I'm doing a slightly better job of managing my personal finances, but of course, I could always do better. Thank heavens the band is getting more and more paying gigs!
Speaking of the band, I find myself scheming, contemplating more elaborate shows for the future, thanks largely to videos such as this one:
We'll be having a meeting at our upcoming rehearsal this week, and I think I'm going to see if people are up for us putting together something like a circus/carnival/freakshow. Hopefully they'll be keen on the idea.
