Orkestar Slivovica Shows this weekend:

Our usual, monthly Slivovica Social Club at Raw Canvas in Yaletown, Friday night starting at 9 p.m.; this month's feature is Gord Grdina.  Gordon Grdina is a Vancouver-based Oud/Guitarist whose sound is a combination of his interests in mainstream jazz, free-form improvisation and Arabic classical music. He plays the Oud in the Arabic/ Persian/Indian ensemble Sangha.

As if that wasn't amazing enough, Gordon announced earlier this week on our Facebook page that he will be joined on stage by Juno award nominee and internationally renowned clarinetist François Houle.  François Houle!!  Never heard of him?  Allow me to enlighten you:   He has twice been listed by Downbeat magazine as a “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition” and was hailed as a “Rising Star” in Downbeat’s 2008 Critics’ Poll.  He has been an artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts and at the Civitella Ranieri Foundation in Umbria, Italy.  He has been a performer at both MusicFest Vancouver and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival - and the guy is playing at our show!  I'm now officially nervous.

And that's just our Friday show!  We're also performing at the 7th Annual In The House Festival.  It all starts today (Friday), runs throughout the weekend and features schwaks of talent; we'll be playing as part of the Grand Finale - Saison d’Être at 1095 Victoria Drive, along with the Avatar Circus Project, Chris Murdoch and Bekka Rose starting around 8 p.m.  Single tickets are $13 adults/$8 kids; 4-show and weekend passes are also available.

Lots of shows lined up in the next few months, and if all goes well, we will have a few more announcements in the coming weeks that will pique your interest.  If you haven't heard us yet, you're missing out, because it just keeps getting better and better.  Stay tuned both here and on Facebook for upcoming shows and band news, and hopefully we'll see you this weekend!
